Experience
and Work.

My experience spans infectious disease research, teaching, and technical communication. My work has also included computer science education and large-scale community engagement initiatives.

MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY / AUGUST 2026 – CURRENT

Graduate Research Assistant

COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

I conduct graduate research in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine under the advisement of Dr. Isaac Jumper. My thesis is a case-control study investigating associations between farm-level biosecurity practices and H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreaks among poultry operations in the Midwestern United States.

Alongside my thesis, I have continued developing and evaluating national-scale HPAI early-warning forecasting methods, including temporally constrained model evaluation, rare-event prediction, and analyses of predictive signal.

USDA AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH SERVICE / MAY 2025 – JULY 2026

Research Intern & Continuing Research

I began working with USDA ARS during a 10-week research internship in summer 2025. During that internship, my work focused on national-scale HPAI risk classification and pseudo-forecasting using observed future covariates. I developed geospatial machine learning pipelines integrating agricultural, environmental, and ecological data to investigate county-level outbreak risk.

My subsequent research has focused on evaluating whether predictive early-warning signals persist when models are restricted to information available at the time of forecasting. Alongside this work, I developed interactive dashboards designed to communicate county-level outbreak risk to poultry producers and state veterinarians. This work includes rolling-origin evaluation, comparison of modeling approaches, and feature sensitivity analyses.

UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT ARLINGTON / JANUARY – MAY 2025

Operating Systems Teaching Assistant

I served as an undergraduate teaching assistant under Professor Bakker, supporting 120 students in CSE 3320 Operating Systems. During my two sets of weekly office hours, I helped debug assignments covering scheduling, memory management, and multithreading. I graded all assignments by developing custom automated Python scripts and proctored every exam for the course.

OPENAI / JULY 2024 – CURRENT

Engagement Manager

I led community engagement initiatives for OpenAI's largest online community (OpenAI Discord). My work included developing online, asynchronous events, writing bi-monthly newsletters for non-technical audiences about OpenAI product and research updates, synthesizing community feedback, and building key performance indicator (KPI) reports for senior management.

I also attended OpenAI's DevDay 2025 as production staff, running the Discord server for event attendees to help them navigate the event schedule and activities.

This role has stayed very close to my heart as it introduced me to the world of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML). Simultaneously, it gave me the opportunity to learn from and work alongside some of the brightest minds in the tech industry today.

UNIVERSITY & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Service & Leadership.

ACM @ UT ARLINGTON / MAY 2025 – MAY 2026

Education Director

Led ACM Educate, UTA's largest tech organization's educational initiative. In this role, I coordinated weekly technical workshops and career development events for an organization with over 1,000 members. I also directed a team of officers and oversaw the organization's mentor-mentee program.

WESLEY CAMPUS COMMUNITY / AUGUST 2024 – MAY 2026

Board of Directors Representative

Served as the sole student representative on the Wesley Board of Directors, participating in monthly board meetings, oversight of a $100K+ annual budget, and the director hiring process. This role allowed me to advocate for student needs in discussions with United Methodist Church (UMC) leadership in the Horizon Texas Conference (HTC).

UT ARLINGTON CSE / NOVEMBER 2025 – MAY 2026

Student Advisory Council Member

I served alongside approximately a dozen student representatives, bringing student perspectives to Computer Science and Engineering department leadership, including at the annual faculty retreat.
